Genderific groups began on February 22, 2009, in a private home in Phoenix, AZ. after assessing the needs of the Phoenix trans community. Michael Brown and Antonia (Toni) D’orsay realized the need for a Co-ed meeting to complement existing men's and women's groups.
The format of the original group was a relaxed, semi-facilitated discussion on various topics that affect trans people in their daily lives. It was intended for trans men and women, as well as open to all allies and supporters.
Genderific met twice a month for a few months, until Michael and Toni realized the need to expand not only in frequency, but also in locations, in order to reach a wider part of the community, as well as offer an alternative format for the group meetings.
Michael began hosting the Genderific West Film and Discussion Group twice a month in July of 2009, and it continues today. The film or documentary, which specifically or metaphorically relates to being trans, generates discussion amongst the group attendees.
Later in 2009, Toni put her hosted meetings on hold for an indefinite period of time, while Michael continued hosting twice a month, on the 1st and 3rd Sundays each month. Genderific groups became a Program sponsored by TransMentors International, Inc. at that time.
The need for Genderific in the opposite side of the valley became apparent, and on May 23, 2010, a local East Valley transman, Pat, began hosting a facilitated topic-oriented Genderific Discussion and Potluck on the 4th Sundays of each month. A short time after that, on September 27, another transman, Shawn, created and began hosting a Genderific Spirituality group on the 2nd Sundays, for sharing our individual paths and Truths in our journeys to live authentically.
------------
The Genderific groups continue today as a Program offered by TransMentors International, Inc. in several formats and locations, each continuing to offer a relaxed atmosphere in a safe home. We welcome other trans men and women around the world, to join us in hosting Genderific meetings in other communities. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
