ANNOUNCEMENT OF GENDERIFIC PROGRAM CHANGES
PHOENIX, AZ December, 2010: On 22 February 2009, Michael Eric Brown, Executive Director of TransMentors International, Inc., and Antonia (Toni) D’orsay began a series of discussion groups for the trans community that became known as “Genderific” groups. As those groups grew, they were divided between Central Phoenix groups managed by Toni and West Phoenix groups managed by Michael. Eventually, Toni became involved in other projects and suspended her Central Phoenix Genderific groups. Michael, however, continued the West Phoenix groups as a program of TransMentors, and, in 2010, expanded those groups to include an East Valley Genderific group and a Genderific group focused on spiritual issues facing the trans community.
In July 2010, Toni became Executive Director of This is H.O.W. and, in December, announced plans to resume the Central Phoenix Genderific groups. During recent discussions, TransMentors and This is H.O.W. agreed that it is in the best interests of both organizations to distinguish their program offerings. Therefore, Toni and This is H.O.W. have agreed to rename their discussion programs “TransVerse.” TransMentors will continue to offer Genderific groups throughout the Phoenix area and, in keeping with its mission, eventually in other areas. Michael and TransMentors will always be grateful to Toni for her contribution to starting the Genderific groups.
