A New Year Means More Support for our Community
2010 was a year of changes, as well as growth, for TransMentors International. This year, 2011, our vision is even stronger, and our passion makes us more determined to reach as many trans-identified men, women and youth as we possibly can.
One of the many things we do at TransMentors is educate through conferences such as the Philadelphia Health Conference, Colorado Gold Rush, Gender Odyssey, and TransForm Events . Workshops and panels at various organizations, businesses and educational institutions are another way we continue to fulfill our Mission.
We also host weekly groups and socials in the Phoenix area for the trans community and allies. We continue to provide Emergency Assistance in various forms, from resources to personal necessities, to food and bus passes, as well as hosting a Free Clothing Exchange four times a year for the community.
One of our bigger successes this past year was to be able to officially announce H.O.P.E. House, the first Trans Safe House in Phoenix, Arizona. Beginning in October 1998, in a small one bedroom apartment with a couch for a young transboy who needed a safe place to sleep, and growing through the next year and a half, in 2010, H.O.P.E. House opened the doors to a six (soon to be seven) bedroom home that provides emergency and transitional living for those who need a safe place to live.
During this coming year, our plans include more conferences and more workshops. We are in the process of improving our Mentor Program, and will be expanding to new areas. We'll be pursuing the possibility of opening a second Safe House outside of Arizona, and making it happen if we can. We'll also be continuing to work towards a National Trans Help Line that is covered as many hours as possible every day of the week.
We give our sincere thanks to all who have helped us financially these last two years, and ask for all of you to consider making a donation to help us continue this year. No one gets a paycheck, it's all volunteer-based. All donations go right back into, or for, the trans community.
We need a minimum of $10,000 this year to do what we do. If each of you donated $10 a month (that's 2 cups of fancy coffee you'd be giving up) we'd be able to continue providing the support and assistance our community so desperately needs.
TransMentors International, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and provides support and assistance to trans men, women and youth in their day-to-day lives.
