Title: Mentors Site Program Coordinator
SUMMARY: This position involves recruiting, training and screening adult volunteers and matching them one-to-one with mentees. Responsibilities also include interviewing and screening the mentees, providing follow-up support once each match is made, planning and implementing Orientation workshops, and planning and implementing a Support Group program.
Oversees and manages program in their city/location. Works with Supervisor online via emails and messenger.
Generate community awareness of the Mentors Program.
Recruit volunteers from the community to work with the mentees that are referred or recruited, using print, media, local trans organizations and groups, etc.;
Recruit mentees from the community, using print, media, local trans organizations and groups, etc.;
Plans, promotes, organizes and hosts local Workshops for future mentors. This will include securing a suitable location for meeting, ensuring the local community is aware of event particulars, printing handouts, speaking, and maintaining records of attendance and outcomes for future mentors.
Secures all mentor applications, background check forms and parents consent forms when applicable; Forwards necessary forms to Supervisor for processing.
Oversees and assists with participant screening (both mentors and mentees); training of mentors, matching, support, supervision, recognition and closure activities for mentors and mentees;
Organizes and hosts Orientation Class for new mentors. Class will follow a predetermined structure.
Hosts ongoing monthly Support Groups for mentors and mentees; Groups will be Topic-oriented. At times, securing speakers from local groups and organizations will be required.
Provides guidance to mentors and mentees to ensure that both have an enriching mentoring experience;
Creates and oversees implementation of ongoing advertising and mentor and mentee recruitment plans;
Contributes to program evaluation efforts.
Exceptionally strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; and
Demonstrated creativity, flexibility and comfort in working within the trans community.
